PROGRAMME GUIDE: SPECIAL EVENTS

JUST IMAGINE provides a perfect setting for Special Events. You may wish to organize storytelling sessions, small theatrical performances, book readings, 'detective games' or guided tours. The small THEATRE located inside JUST IMAGINE is ideal for presenting stories or puppet shows to entertain intimate audiences. Children or professional puppeteers can make use of existing puppets (Daniel, Queen Olivia and Chief Octavio), or others of their own choosing. Performances showcasing dialogues or scripts completely unrelated to JUST IMAGINE can also be featured.

STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS and BOOK READINGS presented alongside JUST IMAGINE will complement themes of literacy, imagination and creativity. Stories related by children or adults, may include any number of topics. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Tales of our indigenous people
  • International folk tales or legends
  • Stories inspired by JUST IMAGINE
  • Original stories created by the storytellers themselves.

Book readings, whether presented by authors or anyone else, will greatly reinforce the concepts behind Churcher's work. The process of concentrated listening directly communicates to every individual, in a shared experience, the life-enriching power of reading and it's amazing potential to nurture imagination.

DETECTIVE GAMES are fun activities that serve to enhance enjoyment of JUST IMAGINE and at the same time develop observational skills and creative thinking. The 'clues' may be printed on handouts for each detective to complete whilst solving the various mysteries. Here are some suggestions for clues and activities:

1 Draw a line to connect the nose to its owner:

PRESENTATIONS by DAR CHURCHER may further augment programming. These entertaining and informative talks include a slide show and visual aids. Topics under consideration may include: 'THE INSIDE STORY', a description of the fascinating two-year process involved in creating JUST IMAGINE, and the philosophical concepts behind each of the stories. Presentations are suitable for a wide audience - from children and parents, to docents, artists, educators, librarians and the general public.
